Conley--I am doing research on my Conley family and have found that they came out of Fayette County. In 1860, one name appears on the slave census, and, thereafter, it seems that some left and relocated in Huntsville, Alabama. I have been trying to locate a place by the name of Pricers Springs, or Parlee Springs. This is the place that the LDS lists as their birth place. They were considered mulattoes in later census records. Juliette R. Thornton. thornton_ju@mail.chattanooga.gov 03-04

He moved on to Ala. Enroute he married Martha Browning. Then he moved on into MS where he became a Judge. What School of Higher Learning was in Fayette Co. TN at that time? Moss, Gilbert, Russell--My genealogy research has hit a brick wall. James Newton Moss was born June 26, 1872, in Galloway, TN. His father was James Madison Moss and his mother was the former Martha E. Gilbert. James Newton married Mary Emma Russell in Arkansas and one Census shows him, his wife and mother Martha E. (Gilbert) Moss in Arkansas. That's where everything ends. Need info on James Madison Moss and Martha Gilbert and any ancestors before them. There is supposed to be some Cherokee influence in this part of the family, but I have no firm information. Any help would be appreciated. STEVE1488@aol.com 10-02
