Smith, Newman, Collins--I am looking for info on any of the following people, or knows someone who could help me find any infomation on how to contact them. Help would greatly be appreciated. We don't know much about my fathers side of the family and hope these people could help us. This is the infomation I got from an obituary from Memphis. J. W. Smith, his wife, Bera Lois Smith Newman. Known children: Wilie Maye Smith Collins. Step children: Sykes Smith, Ira Smith, J. W. Smith, Jr. Grandson Larry Wayne Collins. I have two obituaries and they both show Bera Lois Smith Newman buried in Elmood Cemetery and the other shows Memphis Memorial Park in 1948. She was born in Lauderdale Co., TN, married and moved to Beedeville, ARK., but the obituary says she came to Memphis to visit her daughter Mrs. Willie Maye Collins and she became ill and died. I found a Larry Wayne Collins in the Memphis directory, but it said the number was no longer in service. Thanks in Advance for any infomation that anyone could provide. monroe_37@charter.net 11-03

Tatum, Cook--Does anyone do free lookups for divorces in Shelby county? I am looking for the date of a divorce between Kenneth Neal Tatum and Ester (Cook) Tatum somewhere around the early to mid 60's. They were living in Memphis, TN at the time of their divorce. This is a deceased uncle of mine. My name is Virginia Hayes. email: okies98@valliant.net 05-03
Raiford, Sale/Sales, Canon, Hope, Stinson--I'm researching my Raiford ancestors. There were Raifords from Edgefield County, South Carolina in Marshall County, MS who were there for the 1840 census and two other members of that family there for the 1850 census. There were also Raifords in Desoto County, MS for the 1840 census, two listed as having been born in TN, one who is listed as having been born in NC, A. E. Raiford, female. From marriage records for the same period, A. E. wass probably Amanda Raiford. P. N. Raiford, farmer was reported in the Memphis paper of the time as having married Tommie Sale. My great uncle Philip Raiford, who was born in Marshall Co., was married to Tommye Sales. He died in 1914 and they are buried in the Como Friendship Cemetery in Como, MS. I'm also researching my Canon ancestors who were in Marshall Co. at the same time. My gggrandfather was Alfred Orville Canon, born in Mecklenburg Co., NC in 1812, present from records of an organizational meeting by the College Hill Presbyterian Church in College Hill, Lafayette Co. in April, 1837. Alfred was married to [1] Elizabeth Hope who died in 1851-1851; [2] Ester Stinson, widow of James Turner Stinson whose will was proved in 1851. I'm descended from Alfred and Ester's daughter, Cora Lea Canon, 1836-1914. Raiford Pittman. raiford@panola.com 12-02
