Eakin/Eakins, McIntyre, Herring, Shepherd--I am looking for any information concerning Robert James (or James Robert) "Jim" Eakins prior to 1850. He is the son of David Eakin and Mary McIntyre Eakin. They moved to TEXAS around 1850 with the Granbury migration. He left a wife and son in MS - the wife is Martha Herring daughter of William Herring and Sarah (Shepherd) Herring - from Clarke County. Holland, Freeman--Col. Orlando Stinson Holland commanded the 37th Mississippi Infantry Regiment during the Vicksburg and Atlanta Campaigns. Orlando was born in Thompston, Upson Co., Ga. 6 Oct 1826. Orlando married Miss Lucy Parker Freeman (born in Ga,) on 29 Jan 1859. The family is shown on the 1860 Clarke Co., Ms. US Census in Household # 252 with two children the youngest, identified only as M. P. was a female 3 months of age, so apparently she was born to Orlando and Lucy. Orlando was shown as an "Editor." Orlando Stinson Holland is shown with the rank of Col., commanding the 37th Mississippi Infantry Regiment. He attended college in Georgia. The family does not appear in the 1870 US Census for Clarke County. He was shot to death on the streets of Columbus, GA, in 1875 by a part-time police officer named Cash. The Col. is buried in historic Linwood Cem. in Columbus, Ga., in an unmarked grave next to his wife Rebecca. Any help you might render will most certainly be appreciated. gabe1941@yahoo.com 02-03

Seeger--I'm wondering if anyone in Enterprise, MS or in Clarke County would be able and/or willing to do a look-up for me. My ancestor, Martin Seeger and his wife Anna, came to Enterprise from Germany, via New Orleans, in 1871. I'm trying to find his (their) naturalization papers which may have been filed in the Clarke County Courthouse, and would greatly appreciate it if someone could do a look-up for me or suggest someone who would be available to do so. Thanks in advance for any help that may be forthcoming. Lawrence Seeger, PO Box 1682, Wilson, NC 27894, Phone (252) 237 8461. email longhorn@bbnp.com 08-01
Walker, Sweet, Warren--There is so much confusion about my family back ground that I feel that even if part of it is true, someone will see it and inquire. Jim Walker is said to be of Indian blood or part Indian. I Think from the time and area he was in (Stonewall or Enterprise) it could be Choctaw or Cherokee. We believe he was born about 1800. He married three times. One wife was an Indian, the other one that we know of was either Lucinda Sweet or Amanda. We believe it was Amanda because the name was passed down a few times. They had about nine children, one son was Steve, born about 1834. Steve lived in Stonewall or Enterprise and he married Amelia Warren or Meddie Jean Warren and they had a son named Willis, who would have been born about 1881.
