Sanders, Pratt, Bell, Martin, Goodman, Sleigh, Saunders, Brooks--Hello my name is Mary Hambrick who is the great granddaughter of Richard D. Sanders born in Hernando, DeSoto County, MS on 4/4/1869 and I am trying to find out more about him.  Could you please see if you could help me?  Prior to his death he wrote a book for the family so we would have some type of record of our family tree.  He was also editor of the Black Diamond Printing Co. Publisher in Lula, MS.  He published this book around 1929. I arrived at this date because in the back of the book he stated he would start the 2nd edition in September, 1929 and then his death occured prior to him completing it.  According to my father, Richard Sanders' father had the same name.  At one point I was able to find a census record showing a birth near the above date but due to computer cliché, I lost the census.  This is from the front page of his book:  He received an early education at Hernando under teachers 1st Professor James Pratt, 2nd Mrs. M. A. Bell,  3rd Professor P. M Martin.  In 1882 he was elected leader of the Sweet Liberty Brass Band which he served for 4 years and also taught the Olivers Chapel Pole Bearers Band.  In 1883 he began typesetting under A.  Goodman, a Jew at Hernando and assisted Mr. Sleigh, the Editor of the DeSoto Times, the County newspaper.  He had 5 children: Annie Saunders and Ora Sanders by Katie Brooks, and Hattie Mai Sanders, Octavia Sanders and Alex Sanders by Nellie Sanders.  He was 32degree Mason.  I hope you can help me. msmaryforever@msn.com    12-03

I've volunteered to host a web page on theMarshall Co. web site and will concentrate on the five Raiford brothers and their baby sister, Elizabeth Raiford, who emigrated there from Edgefield Co., SC. Raiford and Elizabeth Raiford were there before the 1850 census.  My gggrandparents, Robert Raiford, Sr. and Margaret Bryan Wyche Raiford built the house in Red Banks on their farm, The Hedges, which John Loftin has restored and placed on the historic register, farm and all.  I would be willing to share any information that I have. My maternal gggrandfather, Alfred Orville Canon, was an elder in the Presbyterian Church at College Hill where there is a historic note about his  attendance at the organization meeting in April, 1837 in the history of Lafayette Co. The Philiadelphia Presbyterian Church, now renamed the Red Banks Presbyterian Church, was first organized in 1844 then in 1850, was built with hand made bricks upon land that he gave to the church on his farm in Vicotoria.
