Choctaw Indian village, Carney, Kearney, Turnbull--Trying to locate present location of Choctaw Indian Village Oka Pole' or Oka Coopoly as listed on l787 French Map-have recently found village might have been located on Ocobly Creek whichs flows between Kemper Co. and Neshoba Co. - can anyone help me with the present location?  Also searching for present location of Puttahcahcoah Creek, which may be in Kemper County but name probably has changed, on which the widow of half-Choctaw Jeremiah Carney lived on three acres of cultivated land.  Several rivers/creeks mentioned on the list of "Names of Indians Owning Land" where Emmahka, widow of Jeremiah, lived are: Yellow Busha, east side; Teyocktahliah Creek; Yellow Bush River; and I assume a land site on which Capt. Turnbull was living: Yazoo valley flat.  I am researching the line of Irishman Arthur Kearney (Carney), trader with the Choctaws in the Village mentioned and his son, half-Choctaw Jeremiah Carney, signer of Doak's and Dancing Rabbit Cr Treaties.  Any suggestions on where to find the present location of the Village and Puttahcahcoah Creek is appreciated.  June Carney Pollard, Franklin, TN - e.m.: junesam@bellsouth.net - many thanks!  junesam@bellsouth.net    06-04

I am researching the line of half-Choctaw Jeremiah
Carney whose widow, Emmahka lived on three cultivated acres on
Puttahcahcocah Creek which may be in Kemper County but name probably has
changed. Other waters listed on this "Names of Indians Owning Land" are
Yellow Bush River, Yellow Busha, east side; and a Capt. Turnbull living at
"Yazoo Valley flat"-assume this is a des. of the land. Also, Teyocktahliah
Creek is in this vicinity...information greatly apprecaited. June Carney

McAfee, Neeley, Toal--I am so glad to find this site on the computer this morning (Sat., Mar. 13, 2004).  Recently I began searching for information on my paternal grandmother's family, the McAfees.  My grandmother was daughter of McDuffie Wightman McAfee and her name was Rose Elizabeth McAfee (Married James Harvey Neeley).  She lived from 1889 to 1956.  I have learned that her father, McDuffie Wightman McAfee was born in Kemper County, Mississippi.  Jan. 16, 1857 to Hugh McDuffie McAfee and wife, Roseanna Toal McAfee.  I wrote to the County Clerk there hoping to acquire a birth certificate (proof of McDuffee (or McDuffie (sp?) Wightman McAfee's birth) but was disappointed when I received my letter back with a short note typed on it in reply--saying the court house had burned.  I am wondering if there are ANY records there of this family having lived there?  Thank you for any assistance.  Sincerely, Patricia (Pat) Neeley Beach. pnbeach@comcast.net    03-04
