Scott Co., Ms. 1860 Federal Census

The material in this book has been compiled with the utmost care to insure accuracy.  In dealing with handwritten documents, an element of uncertainty exists in correctly interpreting the handwriting (capital S, J, I & L can look very similar).  Some census films are illegible, ink smeared or torn, which adds to the tremendous job of correctly transcribing.  Where the microfilm I had was unreadable, I left the space blank. Maybe the one you look at may be readable, and you can enter the information in you book. Many times the census taker could not spell correctly and thus the name was written by sound or phonetics.  Verify your findings to the microfilm of the original record.
