McWhorter/McWhiter, Sigman--I am a descendent of William McWhiter (McWhorter), who lived in Scott County, Mississippi in 1850. I am applying for membership in the DAR (Daughters of the American Revolution) and need to prove that William McWhorter (McWhirter) (my g-g-g-g-grandfather) was the father of Samuel Andrew Jackson McWhorter (my g-g-g-grandfather). According to numerous family reports, Samuel A. J. McWhorter was born in 1815 in Jackson County, Georgia. Perhaps some local records, newspaper article, family Bible Record or will would connect William and Samuel. I need some document to prove my link for membership in the DAR. Does anyone have a copy of any of these records? Does anyone happen to have a copy of a family Bible page that connects William and Samuel Andrew Jackson McWhorter? Do you have any idea where I can get the proof that I need? William was born May 14, 1782 in S.C. and died July 5, 1872 in Scott County, Mississippi. His wife, Susanna Sigman, was born June 20, 1787 in Ga. and died November 27, 1872 in Scott County, Mississippi. Together they had 8 children (including my g-g-g-grandfather Samuel Andrew Jackson McWhoter). Their youngest son, Ezekiel McWhorter (born May 30, 1829) lived with them in Scott County, Mississippi. The three of them (mom, dad, & Ezekiel) are all listed on the 1850 Census for Scott County, Mississippi. I would love to hear from anyone with info on my McWhorters in Mississippi. Thanks in advance for any help you can give! I sincerely appreciate your help. I look forward to hearing from you. Dianne (& Mike). Please e-mail me at futronix-dianne@home.com 08-01
Stuart/Stewart, McCulloughs, Snow, Dare--I am trying to find information on Andrew Jackson Stuart and family. Great2 grandfather was Andrew Jackson Stuart who lived in Scott County MS. He enlisted into the 2nd Cavalry Company K during the Civil War for the Confederacy at Kuscoiko, Attalla Co., MS. He may have lived originally in Atlanta, GA. Great grandfather Meredith Leonard Stuart was born in 1859. He had a sister named Leona Stuart. When Meredith was a boy he went to live with a family named McCulloughs where he gained the nickname "Charley" Stuart. Meredith was too much of a girls name! Meredith went to Illinois where he met and married his wife Ethinda Snow. They moved across the country west and settled in Waverly, WA. As a side note, it was said that he had joined a wild west show and was a tumbler. His name was mentioned when working there as Charles Dare and also Stuart Dare. Since the name seems to interchange in the spelling of Stuart and Stewart, I am not sure what to follow. Andrew Jackson's signature on his roll papers was Stuart, where my grandfather used Stewart. Meredith, aka Charley, and his wife Ethinda had 5 children. My grandfather Ernest Theodore Stuart, Leona Stuart (after Charlies sister Leona), Lillie Stuart, James Stuart and Effie Stuart. Is anyone working on the Stuarts? foxhunt@gte.net
